magazine writers wanted
I want to wrIter for a magazIne -?

I am 13 and want to become a wrIter when I am older.I would lIke to work for a fashIon/celebrIty/teen magazIne or perhaps somethIng lIke more, okay magazIne etc and want to know how to go about It what subJects should I choose etc ANSWERS FROM WRITERS FOR MAGAZINES (fashIon,celeb, teen) WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL

Good luck with that – I’d be surprised if half those magazines you listed will even still be in business the way the industry is going right now. That said, here is my advice…start writing…A LOT, every day or at least once a week, it doesn’t matter how long, short, or dumb it is…all that matters is that you are practicing.

Over the next 5 years (until you turn 18) you will end up with a bunch of pieces that you can cherry pick your best work from. Put your top 10 best work in the portfolio piece that you send to perspective magazine employers.

Your best bet is to start a blog online – this is where these magazines are going anyway. It’s very easy go to typepad or wordpress and start your own blog for free. They are very easy to update and add pictures to. Start writing…employers will want to see that you understand that you know how to write to the correct audience, but also have creativity in your subjects you choose. It will also be helpful that you can prove you understand how to write online.

Have a few super creative pieces with highend vocabulary, but your ‘commercial’ work examples should be written on a 5th grade reading level…that is what most of the magazines you listed use as their standard. Don’t know what that means? Look it up…that is one of the first lessons you must master…being able to do research.

The good news is, you know what you want to be when you get older…that is an advantage, because most people don’t have a clue at your age. Have fun. I have included some links to the blog programs below for you to get started.

The other link to Copyblogger, will teach you how to write to your audience.
